EL5U ELH3U/5U type high purity hydrogen generator is a new type product developed on the foundation of the technology of astronautic fuel cells. Its operation principle is, hydrogen is produced by the electrolysis of water, and the produced oxygen is released to the atmosphere. It is made up of these systems such as the electrolyzing & separating pool, switch power, pressure control, desiccation & purification and flow display. The core part of the instruments is electrolyzing & separating pool, in which the positive pole is of tube type structure, the negative pole is of sheet metal shape, and both the poles are made of stainless steel. The electrolyzing & separating pools can store electrolyte, produce hydrogen as well as release hydrogen at the same time, and it is the best replacement to sheet shaped electrolyzing pools. The advantage of the instruments is that the electrolyzing area is large, the pool temperature is low, the performance is good, the amount of produced hydrogen is large and the purity of hydrogen is high. The instruments are specially installed with the devices that can prevent liquid from returning, so the instruments can be effectively guaranteed that the phenomenon of liquid returning doesn’t occur during operation. 1．Characteristics of the Instruments （1）It is so simple to operate the instruments that hydrogen can be produced just after opening the switch. Operating Method and On-line （1）First, please check whether there is unusual phenomenon such as the serious damage on the surface or inside of the instruments caused from transportation. And then check whether the fittings are complete according to the manual. （2）Compounding the electrolyte: Dilute 140g KOH with deionized or distilled water of 400ml. After cooling, fill the solution into the liquid container of 1.5 liters in the upper of the instrument. Then fill deionized or distilled water into the container until the liquid surface reaches the level of H. （3）Screw the sealing cap off the output exit on the back board of the instrument to make the hydrogen outlet unblocked. （4）Put on the power and the flow display of the instrument should be the value as below, ELH-300 type 0 ~ 300 ml/min ELH-500 type 0 ~ 500 ml/min. (5) After starting the instrument normally, tighten up the sealing cap to the output exit to assure it sealed and cut off the outlet way of hydrogen. (6) If the pressure display is 0. 5MPa, and the digital LED display of flow is “000” or close to “000” after started the machine for 3 minutes, it shows the instrument is normal; Otherwise it shows the instrument leaks gas. In the case of leakage, check the instrument with suds and exclude from leaking trouble. (7) Cut off the power, and take down the sealed cap of output exit. Connect the pipeline of the external diameter of 3mm with the instrument, and assure there isn’t any leakage, then hydrogen can be supplied normally. (8) Each time after operation, you just need to cut off the switch. Next time to operate, you just need to switch on. 3．Attention Items (1) Observe the discolor silica gel from the side, and change it according to the need. While changing, cut off the power first. After the display of pressure has been zero, screw down the desiccator in clockwise direction and invert it, then screw down the upper cover in counterclockwise direction and change the discolor silica gel. Finally, install them again according to the above process and assure sealing. (2) The LED display value is only for reference because it is converted from the electrolytic electric current. Hydrogen flows out after the buffering of the purifying tube, so the flow is relatively steady, and the changes of ±1 at the tenth figure number of the flow display are normal. (3) It is distilled water but not KOH that is consumed while the operating of the instrument. Deionized water or distilled water should be supplemented according to the situation to assure the electrolyte location is between the upper and lower line. It is proposed that the electrolyte should be changed once every 6 ~ 7 months. (4) If find that the manometer pointed out pressure is low, or the digital display figure show bigger than at ordinary times, this is arising from leaking gas. Man should check the situation of leaking gas in an all-round way with the soap liquid. While changing the discolor silica gel, should pay special attention to screwing on in the sealed place of upper and lower whorl.
