The ignition lock cylinder is the PASSLOCK type. The keys are NOT electronic in any way, but the lock cylinder has a small magnet in it that interacts with a sensor located inside the steering column.
A replacement cylinder of this type is usually needed when there is a MECHANICAL problem with the existing lock....such as the cylinder not turning or damage from an attempted theft. If your existing lock is turning as it should, but the vehicle is not cranking or you are getting a flashing "security" light in the dash, the problem is probably something other than the lock cylinder. The problem could be with the sensor in the steering column housing, wiring leading to or away from the sensor, or other electronic issues.
