I have had this NEW in the wooden original crate SUPER Rare "Ameritech F1 modification partsfor the McLaren F1! This sale is NOT for the car, but for thefront and rear bumpers, headlights, rear bumper and items inside the crate andcrate itself. These rare parts have been sitting in my warehouse for over 15 years collecting dust. The rare bumper and headlight kit were supposedly to be fittedon 1 of 7 McLaren's that were imported by Ameritech to meet the DOTrequirements and NHTSA's Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Back in the 1990's, it was nearly impossible to get one of these cars legally into the United States withthe harsh DOT laws. A recent McLaren F1 sold for over $15 million!That was chassis number 044. And an even more recent F1 was sold for over $20million. I believe this bumper kit was forcar Number 045.These kits were supposed to be installed when the cars were imported, and Ihave heard that possibly only a few of the cars were ever even fitted with thecomponents (first picture shows the little front pods "bumper-ettes"installed on an actual car. In the kit, there are two front bumper-etteswhich weigh and astronomical 18lbs each!! Gordon Murry would haveheartburn if he knew these were installed on the car! As one expert said,"18lbs is like a ton when you're talking about the McLaren F1. GordonMurray would have never allowed that to happen. The shot of the rear bumper isgreat. Those indentations match up with a row of vents in the factory rear bumper,but would serve to block the heat an F1's engine generates that really needs tobe comingout of them. Very interesting part though."
The two head light assemblies look like they have never been installed nor havethe rear bumper. It looks like there are some super heavy duty solidsteel parts in the crate where the bumpers attach. The bumpers seem tohave never been installed but do have some scratches from moving in the crate.It is believed and the address on the crate shows this kit was actually shippedto Osprey, FL (West Coast) and it is believed the owner was originally GerdPetrik. The bumper color seems to be a darker gray color too. Ibelieve this kit was from car # 045. These parts are all in the original crate. Truly a rare McLaren item witha story behind it. This kit would complement the original car verynicely. This Ameritech F1 modification kit is a rare item in history forthe astute collector. With F1 McLaren's selling for $20 million and up,this is an essential piece of history for any F1 enthusiast.Local pick up ONLY.
