The Porsche 718 Cayman begins production in Stuttgart

Porsche’s home may be in Zuffenhausen, but their factory in Stuttgart, which is ironically home to Mercedes-Benz and AMG, recently commenced production of the new 718 Cayman coupe–the new Cayman powered by Porsche’s first-ever turbocharged flat-four. Keep in mind, Porsche has never made a turbocharged flat-four before, though they have in their earlier years, when they began building naturally aspirated flat-fours for the Porsche 356.

Nonetheless, if you’re in Europe, and you’ve been depriving yourself from work, your wife and kids, and camping out at the Porsche dealership, waiting your delivery of the 718 Cayman like a bunch of smartphone fanboys do on the eve of a new half-way update, your wait shouldn’t be that much longer with deliveries scheduled to commence in September in Europe.

Production will also be shifted around to accomodate the extra demand for the new 718 models, which include both the Cayman and the Boxster.

As a refresher, the Porsche 718 Boxster comes with the company’s all-new turbocharged flat-four with 2.0-Litres of displacement, good for 300hp and 280 lb-ft of torque.
