Have tech problems? Geek Squad will begin to show up in a 2016 Toyota Prius c instead of the VW Beetle w/ video

For years, BestBuy’s consumer technical support team has always had mobile capabilities, thanks to the fleet of previous-generation Volkswagen Beetles being used for transport.

Now, in an move to be more “geek-chic,” the branch of BestBuy sensibly opted for a lot of 2016 Toyota Prius c hybrids, which the company says is a smart move considering the amount of miles the teams rack up and the fuel that can be potentially be saved.

About 1,000 units have been ordered and should be showing up at your local BestBuy over the coming year. As a refresher, the Prius c is rated at 53 mpg EPA-estimated in the city. Due to the reduced fuel consumption, Geek Squad says they could reduce their carbon emissions by 50% when compared to the Beetles, as a part of BestBuy’s general initiative to reduce their consumption by 45%.

BestBuy’s spokeswoman, Paula Baldwin, stated that Geek Squad plans to utilize all the Prius cars for 48 months of 65,000 miles, which ever comes first.

Additionally, she also admitted that Volkswagen’s recent “Dieselgate” scandal influenced their decision.
