Report: Toyota’s new S-FR could get a 1.2L turbocharged mill with around 115hp

Some new news is surfacing regarding the new Toyota S-FR subcompact sports roadster via Motoring, who apparently learned the new S-FR could be powered by an all-new 1.2L turbocharged four-banger.

When Toyota revealed the S-FR for the world to see, it was only in near-production-ready concept form, but Toyota was coy on details as to what exactly sat under the hood.

Now, it appears the engine sitting under the hood is a new four-pot with a tiny snail, capable of around 115hp and 136 lb-ft of torque. It doesn’t sound like much, but then again, not much is needed to motivate around 2,204lbs.

Originally, rumors suggested the S-FR could get a modified version of the latest mill powering the Toyota Auris and Corolla, a naturally-aspirated 1.5L four-cylinder with around 125hp and 109 lb-ft of twist, but Motoring says that mill could only be available for the Japanese Domestic Market version.

Either way, the S-FR is slated to hit production and go on sale later in 2016 with the US being scheduled to receive a version as well.
