Report: Mazda is indeed bringing a rotary RX-9 to Tokyo…supposedly

Australian media apparently got the scoop on Mazda’s new highly-anticipated sports car concept, which has everyone worked up about the possibility for the return of the rotary-powered RX sports coupe.

After constant back and forth rumors, suggesting the RX sports coupe, and the rotary engine, were both shelved or still in progress, it seems Mazda’s continuing to pull through as they confirmed a sports car concept is due at the Tokyo Motor Show very soon.

Though of course, details were kept to a minimum on the official front, Australia’s Motoring claims it is indeed a new rotary sports coupe of the RX type, featuring a new twin-rotor 800cc mill assisted with two electric turbochargers, mated to an electric motor to make a complete hybrid system. Power is said to be rated at around 425hp.

Mazda already released a teaser of the car, so it is confirmed a concept is due, but it still remains up in the air in terms of what officially it is. But like everyone’s guess, it’s probably an RX sports coupe concept.

Despite the certainty, all we can say is: YES PLEASE.
