2015 New York: The second generation Jaguar XF brings ferocity to the Big Apple

Jaguar recently unveiled the second generation midsize XF for the world to see at the 2015 New York Auto Show.

Pegged as the automaker’s new cat to compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5-Series, Audi A6, Maserati Ghibli, Lexus GS, and the Cadillac CTS, the new XF is an evolution of the original model.

Thanks to an all-new chassis composed of around 75 percent aluminum, the new XF weighs roughly 132lbs less than the previous model in rear-wheel drive form. The all-wheel drive model also benefits from a diet, but with a more substantial 265-pound figure.

The XF also gets a stiffer chassis with a 50/50 weight distribution for the most balanced handling. And despite the weight reduction, the length of the XF grows by two inches.

Propulsion will initially be supplied by Jaguar-Land Rover’s 3.0L supercharged AJV6 with either 340hp or 380hp on tap, mated to a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic.
