Report: A new Mercedes-Benz GLE is expected at New York

A Mercedes-Benz enthusiast site reports that the new GLE, or a facelifted ML renamed to be the GLE, is going to surface at the 2015 New York Auto Show.

Earlier reports confirmed Mercedes-Benz will be renaming its entire lineup with a new nomenclature theme. This GLE will be the next, updated ML.

Set to go on sale in September, the new GLE is the normal version of the GLE Coupe, Merc’s new BMW X6 competitor.

That said, we could expect the same engine selection as the coupe, including Stuttgart’s new 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 with 367hp and 383 lb-ft of twist while the range-topping GLE 63 AMG gets the usual twin-turbocharged 5.5L V8 with either 557hp or 585hp for the S version.

Later on, there will also be a plug-in hybrid version as Benz seeks to hybridize a solid portion of their lineup to continue perpetuating their quest to reduce fuel economy consumption.
