Report: Jeep’s CEO likes the idea of a pickup revival

It seems the pickup wars are really…uhm, picking up, as Jeep’s CEO just confessed to The Detroit News to liking the idea of a Jeep pickup truck.

Jeep once made several pickup trucks throughout their history from the classic Cherokee-based Comanches to the old J-Series and Gladiator models from the 1970s. Jeep actually has a long history of pickups.

But a Jeep pickup has been absent form the market since that aforementioned Cherokee and a new revival would bring some big attention back to the brand.

Jeep’s CEO, Mike Manley, told The Detroit News he’s a big fan of the idea, however, any model that would actually hit production won’t be here until 2019.

Speculation points to a platform partnership with the next-generation Wrangler, which remains to be built as a body-on-frame truck with solid axles.

Would you buy a modern Jeep pickup?
