Report: US Congressman calls for legislation banning traffic cameras

AutoBlog reports that Rep. Ed Perimutter (D-Colorado) recently introduced a new bill calling for the ban and prohibition of automated traffic camera enforcement all across the United States of America.

According to his remarks, Perimutter believes that these automated systems don’t fundamentally protect motorists as described, but rather only provide more revenue for municipalities looking for more cash.

Traffic and red-light cameras have been increasingly scrutinized over the past year after technical issues brought attention to the devices. Additionally, motorists expressed their outrage, complaining these devices violate citizens’ right to to due process. In lieu of these concerns, several states even sought their own bills to ban cameras.

Additionally, Perimutter cites the fact that there fails to be tangible evidence that supports the idea and concept that automated traffic enforcement improves the automotive safety.
