Report: The Audi R8 may be offered with a 400hp+ V6

Top Gear in the UK heard through the grapevine that the new Audi R8, due at Geneva next month, might get an all-new 400hp+ V6 to offset the base 4.2L naturally-aspirated V8.

A previous rumor surfaced suggesting the V8 would disappear entirely and this makes total sense, considering automakers are now downsizing their engines even more and relying on forced induction.

Audi R8’s lead technical engineer, Roland Schala, didn’t say much else. But considering the horsepower figure, there’s a good chance the new mill is force-fed.

However, Schala did hint the R8 should come with the usual mixture of variants, including a convertible, and some track-focused versions, much like the outgoing model.
