Report: Honda files patent for “CDX” moniker in the name of Acura

Rumors began surfacing about an Acura variant to Honda’s new subcompact HR-V crossover that sits below the CR-V. This makes perfect sense since the subcompact luxury crossover segment is growing really fast from crossover demand in general. It was also kick-started with the introduction of the new Buick Encore with Lexus joining the party with the NX.

That said, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect an Acura version to surface, especially now that a nameplate has been filed by Honda in the name of Acura. The name “CDX” was recently discovered to pass through the US Patent and Trademark Office.

While we don’t usually take these patent reports seriously, this one seems to make total and complete sense.

Do you think an Acura-ified Honda HR-V would work? It does happen to fit right into one of the hottest markets right now.
