Report: A new BMW 9-Series rumored to go into production

BMW is still on a binge of introducing new models and shifting around some old ones as their competitors continue to innovate with new market segments. One of those new market segments consists of new flagship models and in the case of BMW, this could mean a 9-Series model may be in the works for production.

The idea was first pitched with the introduction of the Vision Future Luxury Concept, which is also the concept being used to influence the next-gen 7-Series and BMW’s future design language. But more so, BMW officially said that this could birth a new model above the 7-Series, though details and specifics around this new large flagship never really followed through.

But now, the topic is being brought up again by way of BMWBlog, who recently spoke with the brand’s new and incoming CEO, Harald Kruger, who takes Munich’s helm in May.

According to the interview, the new 9-Series would compete against the Mercedes-Maybach S600 and even BMW’s other portfolio, Rolls-Royce and the Ghost. BMW on the other hand is said to be taking extra steps to ensure there’s no product overlap with Rolls-Royce offerings and this new 9-Series.
