Report: Subaru could phase out six-cylinder engines

It seems Subaru might be serious about downsizing their engines to keep up with demands for fuel economy, and this might mean retiring their flat-six from duty altogether.

CarAdvice in Australia spoke to Yoichi Hori, a Subaru engineer, who claims six-cylinder engine demand is decreasing throughout the world and companies are relying more on small turbocharged motors or hybrid tech. He does have a point, but six-cylinder engines aren’t exactly disappearing.

Either way, Subaru could just drop theirs in favor of some new 2.0L turbocharged boxer-fours. Does this mean we could actually see a Subaru BRZ with a turbo? One could only dream…
