Report: Next-gen Nissan Z to have a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain
It seems like it was eventually going to happen, but word through the pipeline rolls through suggesting the next Nissan Z could come with the choice of a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, below the traditional VQ-based V6. But further more, the new turbo-four could even be a hybrid.
Japan’s BestCarMagazine received the word and apparently the mill is sourced from Mercedes-Benz’s parts bin, reflecting Daimler’s and Renault-Nissan’s recent partnership. It’s a 2.0L mill with an electric motor wedged in between the seven-speed automatic. The result would be an output of 246bhp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
This does raise a question as to whether or not there will be a manual version of this said Z. A Z isn’t really much of a Z without the choice of a manual.
So I’d take this one with a grain of salt
