Report: The 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 to be a coupe only, GT350R arriving in Detroit

Road&Track continues the new saga of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, which for 2016, when it gets introduced, will only be available in a coupe form. There was no indication of a convertible version whatsoever. But more so, R&T learned that Shelby will be introducing an even harder GT350R at Detroit in a month or so.

Going back to the convertible, the reason why there exists no plan to make the Shelby in a convertible is because of the loss in performance the car would experience from having to reinforce the chassis from not having a stiff fixed roof. As a result, the “point of the GT350 would be negated.”

And about that GT350R, well, expect more aggressive aerodynamic bodywork, larger brakes, and more aggressive rubber.
