Toyota to feature next-gen hybrid tech from Le Mans racer on new Prius

Toyota officially announced by way of AutomotiveNews to be featuring some new hybrid tech using components tested on the TS040 HYBRID 2014 World Endurance Championship racer. So yes, the next generation Prius might be gaining some cool by utilizing some technology from Toyota’s Le Mans race hybrid.

Speaking to Toyota Motorsport GmbH’s president, Yoshiaka Kinoshita, the 2016 Toyota Prius could also gain the TS040’s all-wheel drive system while the hybrid powertrain features new semiconductor technology that Toyota reportedly was working on in the past.

Additionally, the Prius could be powered by new nickel-metal hydride batteries in an entry-level model while more expensive and standard models get lithium-ion packs for greater range.
