Report: BMW apparently turns down i8 Spyder and variants to 7-Series

BMW was rumored to be working on an i8 with no head (a.k.a. a convertible variant) as well as a potential M7, but in a recent report from InAutoNews, those two ideas are total baloney.

At the 2012 Beijing Motor Show, BMW did attempt an i8 Spyder Concept, but apparently the project has been cancelled. Additionally, rumors suggested the 7-Series was finally going to go through BMW’s M finishing school to create an M7 to better compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG, the Jaguar XJR and the Audi S8. However, the same representative who downplayed the i8 Spyder also said this M7 prospect wasn’t going to happen either.

Instead, BMW is going to focus on catering to affluent trophy wife mall crawlers with the latest version taking form as the anticipated X7 full-size crossover. Yuck.
