Report: Audi ditches its Multitronic CVT transmission, to be replaced by seven-speed DSG down yonder in Australia reports that Audi is to discontinue their Multitronic CVT transmission, offered in various entry-level A4, A5, A6, and A7 models here and abroad. Taking its place will most likely be a Volkswagen-sourced seven-speed DSG automatic.

According to the report, Audi’s senior engineer for driving behavior, Ralph Reigger, said that the CVT won’t be offered on next-generation models. The first model expected to receive the new seven-speed DSG is the next generation Audi A4, due to launch in the first half of 2015.

This departure from the CVT is surely expected to come as a huge welcome from Audi fans and driving enthusiasts alike since CVTs are hardly engaging. Additionally, Audi’s Multitronic CVT transmission isn’t without fault as earlier models were involved in a class-action lawsuit for being hopelessly problematic.
