Report: Bentley wants to dip its toes into custom coachbuilding

Bentley reportedly wants to get in touch with their serious customization and coachbuilding side by dipping its toes into building very special and one-off models, like from the now defunct firm, Bertone, or the still-in-action Zagato company.

The famed British luxury automaker was once a formidable player in building one-off custom cars for only the world’s most affluent customers but due to stricter regulations and unibody constructions, the practice isn’t exactly possible. But Bentley wants to try and reconnect with its past in this field.

After speaking with AutoCar and AutoExpress, Bentley’s sales chief, Kevin Rose, said that the automaker is planning a “special operations” division, like Jaguar-Land Rover’s SVO department, Ferrari’s Special Projects, McLaren Special Operations, and so on.
