Rumors have been floating around about a rally-inspired 911 crossover earlier this year. While nothing has been confirmed, it may actually happen as Porsche just released a video that highlights a very famous rally car from the 1978 East African Rally, refreshing our memories as to why Porsche and motorsports go hand in hand, even if it’s off-road.
A Porsche 911 might be the last car you’d expect to traverse an off-road rally course, but a near-production specification model did so back in the day. But during its rally in 1978, it hit a rock, damaging the rear suspension. Despite the damage, it placed second overall.
