Report: Jaguar may be planning a lighter F-Type
AutoExpress reports that Jaguar might be preparing an even lighter F-Type, which could only mean that a more track-focused version of the F-Type is in the works.
As a direct competitor to the Porsche 911, this makes complete and perfect sense as the F-Type’s arch rival, the Porsche 911, as its own selection of variants, from an eye-watering Turbo model, to the track monster GT3–which is essentially a lightened and beefed up 911.

The car will be built as a part of Jaguar’s latest SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) division and the diet would be a welcome since the F-Type V8 S weighs in at an alarmingly porky figure of almost two tons.
Word comes in after AE spoke with SVO’s director, Paul Newson, who said that inspiration would be lifted from Project 7 and the lighter weight could mean use of a smaller motor. Specifically, he referenced Jaguar’s recent and insane 1.6L turbocharged and supercharged four-banger good for a ridiculous 502hp…from a 1.6L four!
