Volkswagen confirms production of Beetle Dune Concept

At the 2014 North American International Auto Show earlier this year, Volkswagen quietly announced to be moving the Beetle Dune Concept into production by 2016. Recently, Volkswagen confirmed this plan in a recent and quick promo video.

Details aren’t plentiful, though both a coupe and a convertible version are expected to surface when it begins hitting showrooms in just a few short years. Expect an extra two inches of ground clearance and a wider track by 1.1 inches for more versatility for when paved road just simply ceases to exist. Pricing is expected to demand a premium over the standard Beetle.

Power is still unknown, though the concept at the Detroit Auto Show used a 2.0L turbo-four with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with power being sent to the front-wheels only. Though, being a more all-terrain friendly Beetle, 4MOTION all-wheel drive would be a nice justification for the extra ground clearance as well.
