Report: Tesla working on a long wheelbase version of the Model S

A report is in from enthusiast site, Gas2.org, who apparently learned that Tesla Motors is preparing a long-wheelbase model to the Model S, which could out sometime later this year. This doesn’t sound unreasonable as long wheelbase models have been on the rise, particularly from demand in China, where the frivolous lot like to be chauffeured around.

In comparison, the current wheelbase of the standard Model S is around 116.5 inches–there was no specific detail surrounding how much the new model could through though. Also, the current curb weight of the Tesla Model S rings in at 4,647lbs. That said, because of the increase in length, there’s more space to fit more battery packs. As a result, there could be an increase in size with the battery pack to compensate for the extra size and weight.

Additionally, the report says the model will most likely be sold in the US and Europe and will be ready before the Model X enters production in 2015.
