Report: US-spec Alfa Romeo 4C gains some weight as it comes to America…oh the irony

AutoBlog reports that Alfa Romeo’s highly-anticipated 4C will gain some weight, approximately 342lbs, as it comes state side, due to different federalization standards. The total result is a dry weight figure of 2,314lbs.

The extra heft can be sourced to a more rigid and reinforced carbon fiber tub as well as more safety equipment. Still, the Alfa Romeo 4C promises to be a potent mid-engined sports car, priced rather reasonably at $53,900 without factoring the $1,295 destination charge. There’s also a limited edition Launch Edition model, capped at 500 units total, starting at $69,695.

The 4C will be sold through the recently announced 86 franchised dealerships around the US and Canada, finally marking the brand’s first mass-market return following a 20-year hiatus.
