Word via AutoExpress in the UK is that Honda is apparently working on a new S2000 as the Japanese sports car wars seem to be heating up once again. These hints come in after the outlet spoke with an internal source within the automaker.
The S2000 was axed back in 2009 and has yet to be followed up, gaining the status of a cult favorite. Previous rumors have hinted at the possibility of a new model, but none of them have taken shape. But according to AutoExpress, this up for change. The new S2000 will accompany the new NSX and Honda’s expected S660 subcompact roadster as a model in between. It will receive a 2.0L turbocharged engine from the up and coming Civic Type-R, sporting near 250hp.
This will also be a departure from the original S2000’s high-revving four-cylinder..
