Report: Subaru planning modular platform and seven-seat SUV hybrid

Subaru will be jumping on the modular platform bandwagon within the near future as AutomotiveNews reports that Fuji Heavy Industries is setting some new sales goals for the year 2020. The plan is to bump production numbers up per year from 478,000 to 600,000.

The idea is to introduce some new powertrains, such as more fuel-efficient direct-injection boxer. The platform on the other hand will be called Subaru Global Platform, which will provide a starting point for nearly every next-generation Subaru beginning in 2016. One of those models is a new seven-seat crossover to succeed the fairly anonymous Tribeca. The pitch for the new Tribeca however is that there will be a hybrid version as well.
