Report: Porsche looking to fight Tesla on the EV front

Porsche’s CEO, Matthias Muller, has made it pretty clear that he’s none too excited by the number of customers that have jumped onto the Tesla bandwagon. Porsche’s Panamera hybrid may be a bit more dear than Tesla Model S, but the two are fighting for the same market. Porsche’s 918 may be miles ahead of Tesla’s Lotus-based experiment, but it does not offer the range of the Model S.

Muller recently related to¬†Auto und Sport that he has little interest in a range extended EV, but is principally interested in seeing an EV with a range of at least 300 km or 186 miles. Though Porsche nailed a few EV Boxster prototypes together in the past, the best they could manage was a range of 107 miles with a 245 horsepower, 398 ft-lb electric powertrain. If Porsche can put down something substantially more solid than that with that output, then there’s no reason why they could not woo Tesla’s customers.
