Randomly Spotted: 1988 Alpina C2 2.7

Okay, it’s been randomly spotted on the internet and not in my real life, but likely in my, and I would anticipate others’ dreams, is a very rare stroker E30. Offered up at about 10,000 GBP, at auction, this car may look like a gray toaster to some, but to some of us are fizzing fit to burst over the site of those meticulously maintained headlamp washers, or the very 80s pinstriping throughout.

Under the hood is a stroked version of BMW’s M20 chucking out over 200 horsepower and is capable of overpowering many cars on the road today, topping out at over 140 mph. Compared to today’s N20 powered 3er and 4er sedans and coupes, this may seem a bit weak, but let’s remember that this is an E30: there’s nearly half a ton less of safety equipment, sound deadening, and facetube and myface connectivity slowing everything down. There are beater E30s, there are daily driver E30s, there are heavily modded and tracked E30s, there are about 3 E30 M3s that haven’t been ridden hard and put away wet, and then there are the Alpinas.  For some of us E30 nerds, doesn’t get better than this.
