Report: Land Rover watching Tesla and progress with Model X

Most of us are aware that Tesla is in the works with a new SUV crossover EV based off of the highly successful Model S luxury sedan. And Great Britain isn’t going to let America get away with this market as Land Rover is apparently keeping a watchful eye on how Tesla manages with the highly-anticpated Model X.

Land Rover has been researching and developing EV and hybrid powertrains. Not too long ago, we saw the introduction of some Defender EV prototypes as well as a fleet of Range Rover Hybrids, all of which are currently undergoing real-world testing. The Range Rover Hybrid is current available in the European market.

That said, should Tesla experience success with the Model X, Land Rover could chase the segment with a competitor of their own.

“We can’t neglect any segment, and if a segment gets stronger and shows momentum, we would have to react. But we have not made a decision about an EV model,” explained Ziebart to AutoCar in the UK.
