Word via AutoEvolution is that Mercedes-Benz may be dipping their toes into the baby-roadster market with a supposed SLA subcompact that would sit below the SLK.
Mercedes-Benz suggested the idea once before a while back in 2000 with the Vision SLA at the 2000 North American International Auto Show. Though obviously, the concept was never put into production.
With Benz’s new modular platforms that gives the automaker the chance to pretty much make anything they could think of–the MFA architecture that currently underpins the A-Class, the CLA, GLA, B-Class, and the new CLA Shooting Brake to be specific–would provide the Stuttgart automaker with a fairly easy starting point.
It would utilize front-wheel drive like all of the above and should it make production, you could most likely expect the same assortment of engines and drivetrains.
A decision will be made in the coming months.
