Report: Could Volkswagen be picking up the pickup possibility again?
Word in the pipeline is that Volkswagen may be reconsidering its own rendition of a pickup truck. The German automaker began teasing us with a foreign market model known as the Amarok, which is sold in Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and Russia, just to name a few. While talks are apparently happening between North American dealers and VW, AutoBlog recently learned that whatever pickup may make it to US shores could be something other than the Amarok.
The publication spoke with VW of North America’s VEO, Michael Horn, who said the Amarok was “too small for the US,” though discussions are happening again.
Volkswagen is also keeping a close eye on the midsize pickup market as GM just revealed the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, which could reunite the midsize market, currently occupied by the Toyota Tacoma and the Nissan Frontier. This could mean Volkswagen may test the waters in the midsize market rather than the far more competitive full-size market.
