Report: 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra to feature aluminum bodies

Reuters reports the General Motors will be following in the path of Ford by introducing new aluminum bodies for the next generation, completely redesigned Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra in 2019.

According to the report, originally fromĀ The Wall Street Journal, General Motors signed agreements with Alcoa and Novelis–two major aluminum suppliers, for the next gen models. Now, the suppliers are also apparently working to accommodate the extra demand from the General.

Ford recently set a new trend for the full-size pickup market by making the body of the new F150 all aluminum. This resulted in a weight savings nearing 700lbs, which is very impressive.

There’s no word on how the aluminum could help the General’s stable. Either way, it should prove to be productive for the brand.
