Report: Volkswagen denies production BlueSport compact roadster

Dutch publication, Autovisie from the Telegraaf, reportedly learned that Volkswagen will not be producing a production version of the anticipated BlueSport Concept, the compact roadster from not too long ago.

Rumors were bouncing back in forth about Volkswagen’s indecision to proceed with the project. Now, this one seems to seal the deal–it’s a no go.

The reason for cancelling the project was due to the company’s findings that there just isn’t a market for such a car and the compact sports car segment is “going down.”

The BlueSpot Concept is from 2009, when it debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, sporting a 2.0L TDI four-banger turbodiesel with 180hp and 258 lb-ft on tap. 0-62 happened in just 6.6 seconds for a top speed of 140 mph while returning 54.7 mpg on the US scale.
