Report: New Maserati Gran Turismo headed to Geneva

We knew this was coming, but we didn’t know when: Maserati will be putting out a new GT to follow up with the refresh of their Quattroporte sedan and new Ghibli midsize car. Power will likely come from a turbocharged 3 liter V6 with an optional 3.8 liter twin turbo V8, these currently used engines put out 410 bhp and 530 bhp, respectively.

The new GT will likely compete with the Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type in that transition area between supercar and sportscar. Expect production of the new GranTurismo coupe and GranCabrio convertible to start some time in 2016, and for this car to use Maser’s existing platform that underpins the Ghibli and Quattroporte. With the new GT, Maserati will now be a larger player in the luxury world, offering up a BMW 7 series competitor, BMW 5 series competitor, and Porsche 911 fighter.
