Spy Shots: Cadillac’s new full-size luxury sedan spotted, more info arises

Cadillac has been in and out of the spotlight regarding their intended direction with competing against the big-dog full-size luxury executive sedans from Europe and Japan–a market that they have long since abandoned as the foreign automakers seized this particular segment. But over the past year or so, America’s top brass has been fighting for a way to step into the full-size waters again and to confirm that they’re on the way, some spy photos have surfaced of a test mule through CARandDRIVER and spy photographer, Chris Doane.

This is a major step for Cadillac, who’ve been working hard to reinvigorate their image with success. And thus far, they are doing a grand job–the ATS and the CTS are pure examples of this. So that said, we are ecstatic for a new full-sizer that a.) isn’t front-wheel driven or front-wheel drive based like the former DTS and the existing XTS and b.) can finally rival the proverbial Mercedes-Benz S-Class and such. So that said, these spy photos prove that Cadillac is indeed working on the project.

Should there be any more of an indicator, it would be the most recent Elmiraj Concept, which swept the public and the automotive press off their feet with its breathtaking design. The car will ride on a new rear-wheel drive based Omega platform. The platform could also be shared with other brands to produce other models, such as a Buick flagship. This was hinted through a different report via CarAdvice, who spoke to Cadillac’s current chief marketing officer, Uwe Ellinghaus.

Either way, things are continuing to heat up for Cadillac. Needless to say, we’re excited.
