Hyundai confirms new Veloster variant heading to Chicago

Hyundai officially shared their plans for the 2014 Chicago Auto Show, which is set to occur next week. And there, the South Korean automaker will be showcasing the 2015 Genesis sedan once again, with an addition to the Veloster lineup.

As usual, specifics were kept to a bare minimum. But if it were our guess—and hope—it would be a new R-Spec model. The tell-tale signs for this possibility: automakers are really pushing for new and separate performance “lineups” to better differentiate their offerings. For instance, you have Volkswagen’s R-Line, Toyota’s rising TRD set, and Ford’s ST offerings, just to name a few. Also, while the Veloster Turbo is still a decently fun hatch, it is still no match for the Focus ST or the Volkswagen GTi.

Knowing Hyundai and their recent success, becoming even more competitive seems to be their plan. And it’s turning out to work pretty well. So let’s see if they can keep the momentum as they enter the more serious nooks and crannies of the automobile industry.
