Report: McLaren wants to build a carbon fiber VW Golf competitor

Word in the newsreel via Dutch publication Autovisie reports that British supercar maker, McLaren, wants to launch a Volkswagen Golf competitor somewhere in the near future.

According to the report, McLaren’s designer, Frank Stephenson, is really keen on the idea. He is also the individual responsible for designing the MP4-12C, its drop-top counterpart, and the P1. But more so, Stephenson said it would have a carbon fiber monocoque.

Stephenson also took the moment under the spotlight to voice his thoughts on automakers utilizing large design departments, which he says results in auto designs that are too “toned down.” He then goes to point his finger at Audi, who he describes, is a serious victim of this.
