Report: The Aston Martin ceases production of Toyota iQ-based Cygnet

Aston Martin has apparently axed their political mandate and marketing stunt, the Toyota iQ-based Cygnet by ceasing production as of recent.

The Cygnet arrived in 2011 as a way for Aston Martin to meet the latest CAFE regulations since AM was sold off to an Italian private equity fund and Prodrive from Ford. Since Aston Martin doesn’t have the backing and ownership of Ford to leverage the demand for CAFE requirements, Aston has been more or less left to fend for themselves.

The Cygnet is apparently still available in local Aston Martin dealers, but we imagine that’s because it was never a hot seller to begin with.
