Report: Maserati’s Levante to begin production at end of 2014 in Italy
AutomotiveNews reports that the future Maserati SUV crossover will begin producing at Maserati’s Mirafiori factory in Turin, Italy, beginning at the end of 2014. Originally, the Levante was going to be built in Detroit along side Fiat’s familial SUVs from Chrysler.
Now, the Italian luxury automaker is has invested significant funds to make sure its latest flagship SUV is built on home turf.
The changes are described to be taking place almost immediately because of prolonged layoffs in bids to try and stimulate the job market in the European car market. That said, Fiat is hoping that the Levante will cure the automaker from the effects of shutting down the Italian auto conglomerate’s major plant in Sicily in 2011.
