Report: BMW to introduce new Z2, to be based off of future front-wheel drive UKL platform

AutoExpressUK reports BMW is preparing a new small front-wheel driven roadster called the Z2, which will sit below the Z4 in the roadster lineup.

BMW is already known to be in the works with a compact front-wheel drive platform co-developed with MINI, which will provide the backbone for all of MINI’s future models and several future front-wheel drive BMWs, like this supposed Z2.

The first front-wheel drive BMW derived from this UKL1 platform is a production version of the Concept Active Tourer, which will be BMW’s answer to the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and to an extent, Audi’s A3. A seven-seater model is also expected along with the completely new front-wheel drive BMW 1-Series.

The new Z2 is said to be similar in size to the original Z3 and will be powered by the choice of either a 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder or a 2.0L four-banger with power reaching as high as the 300 mark.
