Word in the pipeline via AutoGuide.com is that Volkswagen may be honoring the demand to bring much sought after Scirocco coupe to the US of A for the next generation.
The automobile outlet was recently able to sample a one-off Scirocco R that has been shipped to our shores for test purposes by journalists. And to figure out why there’s just one sitting on our shores under of the supervision of Volkswagen AG, AutoGuide.com did some inquiring.

“We don’t have any plans to offer this current generation Scirocco R in the U.S.… but we are open to looking at future versions of the vehicle for this market,” VW’s North American manager of product and technology communications, Mark Gilles, told AutoGuide.com in a recent interview. “It’s just not engineered for this market; it never was.”
Gilles was apparently mainly referring to the current Scirocco’s inability to meet US safety standards.
Although a US-bound Scirocco has been in the rumormill for quite some time with its possibility leaning towards yes, Volkswagen’s Gilles still kept details to a minimum.
So what do you think egmCarTech’ers, do you think Volkswagen should follow through with introducing the next generation Scirocco on our shores? Or would you be disappointed at it being a more attractive, more expensive, and more hooked up Golf hatchback?
