Report: Toyota’s new chairman to be is also pushing for a Supra-like successor

Toyota Motor Corp. is reportedly getting a bit of a corporate overhaul as a new chairman will be stepping in. But the better part of this news is that the new leader to-be is in favor of a new Supra-like successor—most notably one we’ve been hearing rumors about as of recent.

Toyota’s Takeshi Uchiyamada has reportedly been expressing his dire interest to do a sports car, one that is similar to the GT 86, but doesn’t overlap that model’s success. As of now, Toyota and BMW are currently under negotiations.

Either way, we’re absolutely sure that this isn’t the last we’ve heard about this topic. But it’s definitely comforting to know that Toyota may for once be getting its sporty chutzpah back. And considering the cult status that the Toyota Supra has, especially amongst the younger generations—factoring their success with the GT 86—it would almost be foolish of them to not proceed with this idea.
