Report: Infiniti’s new Nissan LEAF-based EV to showcase new wireless induction charging for the battery

AutoCarUK reports that Infiniti will be launching a new electric vehicle based on the current Nissan LEAF and will be the first production car to showcase induction wireless charging, which means that no cables are required to recharge the car’s battery packs.

Induction charging just describes the sort of wireless battery charging technology being researched today, which means that electricity is transferred through electromagnetic fields produced by induction coils.

“The whole concept of not having to couple up cables to a plug socket, dragging them on the ground and on you as you go, is in keeping with luxury motoring,” said Infiniti’s head, Andy Palmer. “It is this technology we want to shine a light on, so while there is no world standard on methods, the roll-out will be dependent on region.”
