Report: BMW to price i3 similarly to a well-equipped 3-Series, in the $40,000 range
AutomotiveNews reports that BMW will be pricing their much-anticipated i3 electric car in the same vicinity as a well-equipped 3-Series sedan. And to actually announce a ballpark figure, BMW of North America’s CEO Ludwig Willisch reportedly said that the price would be around $40,000 for the three-door model. Pricing of the five-door i3 is currently being worked out.
Additionally, thanks to the i3’s EV status, the i3 is said to likely qualify for the US’s federal tax credit of $7,500, though an accompanying BMW spokesperson said that the brand is still in discussions with the federal government.

BMW doesn’t plan on the i3 being a volume seller since the EV market is still small. Though nearly all of BMW’s 338 dealers in the United States are reportedly eager to begin selling the i3 and i8 cars.
