Report: Lexus compact SUV due in concept form at Tokyo later this year, production hybrid version due at 2014 Geneva

Rumors of a compact Lexus SUV to compete against the likes of the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 have been circulating for quite a while. Now though, word is that this rumored compact SUV will be production-ready by the time next year’s 2014 Geneva Auto Show rolls around, according to a report by AutomotiveNews Europe.

The compact SUV will be based off of the Toyota RAV4 and will naturally sit below the Lexus RX 450h in the lineup. However, little detail was spared as to what we should expect with this new SUV.

AutomotiveNews Europe predicts that the compact Lexus SUV will utilize Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive, mated to a 2.5L four-banger. Otherwise, the new compact Lexus SUV is also said to debut in concept form at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show in November, according to Lexus’s head honcho, Kazuo Ohara.
