Report: General Motors filed for “Chevelle” trademark in 2012, could be revived in the future

General Motors’ enthusiast site GMAuthority reports that Chevrolet filed for the “Chevelle” trademark  late last year and word of it was just discovered today. The application was apparently filed in December of 2012.

While not much is known surrounding what this could mean, GMAuthority thinks that the Chevelle revival could be placed on the incoming 2014 Chevrolet SS Sport Sedan. But GMAuthority themselves, including myself, don’t think that’s quite fitting. That said, the Chevelle name revival could suggest that Chevrolet could be interested in introducing a separate sports car.

But what kind of sports car? We’re not exactly sure. But considering GM’s lineup makeover that took place over the last few years, we do seem to be missing a Chevrolet Cobalt SS successor. So that leaves the possibility of a more affordable sports coupe from GM. But then again, there are many other possibilities to ponder about over this potential new “Chevelle.”

Only time will tell.
