Report: 2014 Audi A4 to go on a diet and get a dollop of extra luxury, plug-in hybrid model on the way

Germany’s Autobild reports that Audi is going to give the A4 a nice little diet and dollop of luxury for the 2014 model year. The new 2014 Audi A4 is expected to get more luxurious and more features, with a new and more advanced MMI infotainment system.

Autobild also reportedly said that the boffins in Ingolstadt have been able to make the 2014 Audi A4 lighter by 110 lbs by using more aluminum, magnesium, and plastic. Gross overall weight reduction figures are expected to hover around 220 lbs.

Engines will be the usual mix of four- and six-cylinder gas and diesel motors. A plug-in option is also expected, utilizing Audi’s now ubiquitous 2.0L TFSI four-banger, complete with Audi’s patented e-quattro system that employs electric motors at the front and rear axles. A 12 kWh lithium-ion battery will be integrated, giving the future Audi A4 e-quattro-to-be a travel distance of 31 miles on all-electric mode.
