Report: Audi working on diesel supercar to sit above the R8

It was recently reported that Audi has killed plans to produce the all-electric R8 e-tron supercar. Does that mean we will never see a fuel-efficient supercar from Audi? Probably not. According to new reports from the UK, Audi is working on a Le Mans-inspired diesel hybrid supercar that would sit above the R8.

Sources say that the car could be badged the Audi R10 and is intended to be the road-going version of the brand’s Le Mans-winning R18 e-Tron quattro.

The track car used electricity generated from a flywheel system to power one electric motor for each front wheel.

While no specs or details have been spoken about, we can expect a diesel engine no larger that a V8.
